My Icon Story: Your Story Told Through Icons

My Icon Story: Your Story Told Through Icons

If you had a little nosey at my Mother’s Day Gift Guide, you’ll have seen my brief mention of My Icon Story, a company where you can tell your own story through icons. I emphasise time and time again my love for personalised gifts, so to give a personalised gift and get involved with the making of it is something that I find truly amazing. My Icon Story allows you to create your very own wall art through icons which can coincide with some of your favourite memories whether of a person, time or place, it can’t get any better than this. Did I mention that Olly Murs has a product from this amazing business and absolutely loves it? Well he does, and I’ve now joined the My Icon Story fan club alongside him, and I’m sure after reading this post you’ll be straight on the website, creating your very own product, and joining the fan club shortly after.

After the lovely Laura reached out to me, I knew this was an opportunity not to be missed given the unique nature of the product. With an extensive number of icons within different categories to choose from, I decided that this product would be for my mum and that the icons I would choose would reflect memories we share together and things we love doing as a duo. First though, you have to chose the size of your print, (this will depend on how many icons you want to go for), followed by the colour of the background you want. My mum has a massive canvas of a painting by Steven Brown which is really colourful with a black background, so I wanted to stick with this theme as I knew this picture would be going up on the living room wall in which the canvas is also proudly displayed. After you’ve completed these three steps you can then get on to the really good part, choosing your icons.

I opted for 5 icons, which you can see from above, but why did I choose the icons that I chose? The umbrella and sun lounger represents all the travelling and holidays we have gone together since I was the age of 1, my mum has opened my eyes to the wonders of the world, allowing me to immerse myself in a number of different cultures and see that if I work hard then the world is my oyster. The second icon represents Wembley Stadium as one of our mum/daughter traditions is to go to the Summertime Ball in London every June, which takes place at Wembley Stadium. We both love music, so a concert where we can just let go and sing and dance till our hearts are content is something that we’ve always loved doing as a pair. The third icon of the two girls, is supposed to be my mum and I as we are the best of friends and we really are inseparable. The Burj Al Arab is the another icon I chose as at the time of creating this print, we were counting down the weeks to our trip to Dubai together, where I was taking her for her 50th birthday (unfortunately that trip has been and gone now, pass me the tissues). Finally, the fifth icon is two glasses of champagne to celebrate a milestone, my mum turning 50 and just to celebrate life in general, we’ve been through a lot together and always come out the other end stronger than ever, life itself is a celebration.

Once you’ve chosen your icons, you can change the colours of them and arrange them in the particular order you want them to be in. After that you can move on and choose whether you want your print to be mounted or not, all their prints come with a white mount and backing board at no extra cost so that’s certainly a plus. Finally, before you review your order you have the option to have your print framed, with a white or black frame to choose from (this will cost a little bit extra), taking my 5 icon print from £39 to £75, but trust me you can’t put a price on the uniqueness of this product, no one else will have anything quite like it, and it’s extra personal.

The best part asides from creating this product is the reaction of giving it to that special person, in my case it was my gorgeous and wonderful mum. I sat her down, gave it to her and told her why I chose the icons and let’s be honest, when it comes to my mum, there sure isn’t going to be a dry eye…just the reaction I was hoping for. She absolutely loved it and I absolutely love her so she deserves all the good things that life throws at her. Despite the hard year my mum and I have both had due to the loss of my gran, My Icon Story also allowed us to focus on the positives and the good memories that life gives us too, and for that I’m thankful. If you’re looking for a special product to give someone or to buy yourself then you no longer have to look any further, I can’t recommend this company enough. We all have our own personal stories, so why not tell them through icons!

It’s such a different, unique idea and makes it a gift for an individual person rather than a standard gift everyone has (which are great too of course). I’m sure your mum would love this xx
