If there’s one thing I planned on doing this year it was to update my makeup bag and get some newbies to try out. Over the year you can accumulate a whole load of beauty products to the point that your makeup bag is overflowing with products that barely see the light…this is a big no no for me, so a clear out was required. Stocking up on make-up can be expensive, especially because I tend to stick to the big well-known and overly-priced brands as I know what I’m getting with them, and I’ve never had any complaints about them so far. However, in saying that, I’m always open to trying other brands, especially if I could save myself some pounds. After being approached by makeup brand Technic, they kindly offered to send me a few of their favourite products that go down a treat with other beauty lovers in return for my honest opinion. You could say that the email came into my inbox just at the right time, as my make-up bag was in extreme need of some new friends.
Technic is not only an award winning brand situated in the UK, but also a cruelty-free cosmetic brand, with their products bringing a smile to your purse due to their affordability. When my parcel arrived I expected the odd eyeshadow or two, but rather I was met with a bag full of absolutely every makeup product imaginable: eye shadows, lip glosses, lipsticks, mascara, highlighters, fake tan, eyebrow gel, eyeliner…basically everything you’d ever want for your face. Let’s start with the lipsticks, I was a massive fan of the colours as I’m not into bright or really light lipsticks so I was glad to see some dark/nude shades in there. You can see the shades above, I was really impressed and the glosses are super glossy so your lips won’t dry up for hours.
The highlighters are a personal favourite, with the ‘Prosecco‘ highlighter stealing my heart, I love the nice little pink shimmery glow it adds to my cheeks without it being too drastic. On the other hand, I wasn’t so keen on the ‘24CT Gold‘ highlighter as it was a tad too dark for me (or maybe I just put too much on the brush), however I suppose this could be something that you could wear on a night-out if you’re wanting to look that little bit more bronzed and your features to be extra defined. Another special treat was the unicorn cream, another highlighter, which not only adds glow to your cheeks, but adds a touch of glitter too. I actually wore this on a recent night out in town for some cocktails and my friend complimented me on it (wink wink). If I’m going somewhere that requires extra effort then I’ll add the unicorn cream to give that extra glow to my cheekbones, and just the fact the product has the word unicorn in it makes it a winner in my eyes. The mini highlighter kit is great as you can switch it up depending on the look you’re going for and I love the names of each highlighter (girl power and all that). Another product for defining is the contour kit and I was sent this too, however I’ve not got round to using it enough to give my opinions as I’m still trying to figure out the whole “how to contour” thing.
When it comes to eye-makeup all I really wear is mascara and I touch up my eyebrows so I’m not the most experienced in the eye department, but Technic allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and experiment with some eye products. Another favourite of mine was the eyebrow pencil, which I LOVE! What makes me love it so much I hear you ask? The fact it has the actual eyebrow pencil side, but it also has a highlighter pencil at the other wise, meaning I can shape my eyebrow and then define and sharpen the look with this highlighter. My eyebrows haven’t looked this good in ages, and I like the fact the two products are combined in one meaning I don’t have to dig around my makeup bag to find both (I’m all for a 2 in 1 sort of product). The mascara is waterproof which is one type of mascara I never wear, but I know for a fact this is going to be a blessing in Dubai in a few weeks!
Following on with the eye products, I was sent both an eyeshadow palette and eyeshadow creams. Only recently have I started wearing eyeshadow, although I certainly can’t in the slightest do the big fancy artwork on my eyelids like all you MUAs out there. Just adding a bit of colour to my eyes changes my usual daytime weekday makeup a bit on the weekend, which is all I’m really looking for. The colours are great and look as they do on the eyelid as they do on the palette. As well as the eyeshadow palette, there are a range of eyeshadow creams, I loved the fact they had their own little brush identical to the brush you’d apply lipgloss with meaning you don’t need to get it on your fingers. The eyebrow cream colours are metallic like and definitely bold. The only thing is you have to let it dry or else it will crease, and in regards to the eyeshadow powder palette, this would obviously be a lot easier to blend.
With products starting from as little as £2 you really can’t complain, as for such affordable prices you are getting some high quality products. You could go into a high street department store and splash the cash on ONE item, whereas you could get 3 or more essentials from Technic for the same price. I’d definitely say I’m impressed with the makeup I received from Technic, I think the makeup is just as good as the big brands you need to pay big bucks for (despite how much I love them).
