The cinema is always somewhere to go on a rainy day, with new movies of every genre hitting the screens day in and day out, you’re never short for choice. With 4D movies now taking over from the usual 3D, we truly are spoilt, however, sometimes you can’t help but want to put your legs up, lie back and have somewhere to prop your popcorn and sweets, rather than your lap or the simple cup holder that holds nothing more than your Tango ice-blast. Well have I got news to tell, you no longer have to wish for this as it’s an actual thing, and all thanks to Odeon Luxe.
The new Odeon Luxe has finally came to fruition with Scotland’s largest Odeon Luxe launching in Glasgow on Wednesday the 15th of November, and I was lucky enough to attend the Gala evening along with local media and business owners. With the prosecco flowing, and a lovely array of nibbles, the drinks reception beforehand gave us a sneak preview of the luxury we were about to experience. After picking up some salted popcorn, we headed in to experience the magic, which involved a preview screening of the movie Wonder, which hits cinema screens on Friday (yep I can’t complain about seeing a movie before its UK release date). What puts the luxury in Odeon Luxe though? The cinema includes a new state-of-the-art ISENSE screen with 4k projection and Dolby ATMOUS sound (I myself am not quite sure exactly what this technological term means), but apparently it allows you to have the ultimate high definition experience. With 937 reclining seats across the 12 refurbished screens, would such a transformation make a difference to what cinema I choose to go to in future? Let’s find out.
After walking into an empty screen and picking our seats, we sat down, popped our snacks on our tray table and pressed the button which allowed us to recline, making me feel really quite at home whilst I waited on the movie to start. Wonder is based on the New York Times bestseller, where you get an insight into the life of August Pullman, a boy with facial differences who after being home-schooled for years, enters his fifth grade at a mainstream elementary school for the first time. Inspiring, heart-warming and just truly wonderful, this movie is a real tear-jerker and is the movie of the year for me. Every individual should watch this, as we really never know what someone goes through unless we’re in their shoes, and this movie really does put you in the shoes of August, allowing you to experience a day in his life. The Odeon couldn’t have picked a better movie to preview as part of their Odeon Luxe Gala Launch event, all you could hear were sniffles all round throughout the entire film and it’s the type of movie that sticks in your head well after leaving the movie screen.
As for the cinema itself, Odeon have done amazing with their newly-upgraded screens, but not only that, they have a host of new food and drink options too. The reclining seats are the best things to happen in the cinema world, there’s nothing better than truly immersing yourself in a movie whilst being extremely comfortable, as my mum says to anyone who comes to our house “make yourself at home”, this is the vibes you receive from the Odeon Luxe. The Gala launch event was a big success, to the point I’ve been back to see 2 more movies – Paddington 2 and Daddy’s Home 2, again with Daddy’s Home 2 being a special preview screening the night after the launch night. Paddington 2 is a great family film, and went down a treat with me despite me worrying because I hadn’t seen the first one. On the other hand Daddy’s Home 2 is a great comedy with plenty of laughable moments that you won’t be able to sit still for the duration of the movie. Going to the cinema is a trip I look forward to even more now thanks to Odeon Luxe, and I don’t think I could go to any other cinema now due to their appealing features, so next on my watch list is Pitch Perfect 3. Have you recently been to the cinema, if so what movies have you seen, any recommendations?
