Summer Reminiscing

Summer Reminiscing

With Summer coming to an end (not that Scotland had much of a Summer, the majority of what I can remember involves rain and a general lack of sunshine) I thought it’d be nice to reminisce on some of my favourite moments of Summer 2017. I feel as humans we tend to focus on the negatives, when things are bad, and when we’ve done something wrong, rather than when things are good and when we’ve actually achieved something. It’s definitely a good thing to reminisce on the positive times and on great memories too, which is exactly what I’m about to do in this post with 5 of my highlights from this Summer.

ConGRADulations – After four years of studying Psychology I finally graduated with a First Class Honours degree in my absolute favourite subject. I also got a really pretty pair of wedges from Kurt Geiger that made walking on the stage to collect my degree certificate all the more glamourous. I’ve never felt and looked so professional and Harry Potter like in my gown and hood in all my life, and I wish I could relive the moment all over again, especially the graduation dinner afterwards. I’m now officially a Psychology Graduate out in the big adult world looking for the path that will take me to wonderful places, so let’s hope I find my feet soon.

The next Lewis Hamilton – I went go-karting, no biggie I know but I sat nervously in the reception watching the group before us go, panicking about how to actually drive the thing and whether I’d actually make it round a lap without crashing into the tyres or taking a sharp bend too harshly. I worried for nothing, as soon as I started I got into the swing of things and I’ve never felt an adrenalin rush quite like it. Who knows, maybe next year it’ll be the Formula 1?

Did you say jet-skiing? – I’m honestly the type of person that would avoid the sea at all costs, I’m not the best sea traveller, having experienced sea sickness on the two cruises I’ve been on, and lying on the deck of a catamaran with a bin bag over my head when I was supposed to be dolphin spotting so yeah the sea and I aren’t very compatible. When it comes to swimming in the sea I’m a “just to the waist” sort of girl so I was surprised with myself when I agreed to go jet-skiing. Are you okay Holly? Despite the odd screams every time we went above about 9mph or hit a big wave (odd screams? more like every 5 seconds), I managed to survive, with the most traumatic experience probably being me falling back onto the boat when trying to climb over the boat and down on to the jet-ski (yes I had an accident before we even started, blame the nerves). A pat on the back is deserved though as my stomach managed to keep everything down for the speedboat journey out into the middle of the ocean, and at the end of the experience I ended up back on the shore with raw eyes from the sea salt but pretty impressed at myself for managing to finally tick it off the bucketlist, go me!

Alcudia – After booking this holiday at the beginning of the year, July came around pretty quickly and before I knew it David and I jetted off to Alcudia for a week of sunshine. With temperatures well over and above 30 degrees, and cocktails at the ready, I definitely had the best time ever. Whether we were cycling around the island, screaming down watersides (that was mainly me) or renting a pedalo (with me acting like it was my own private yacht), it was made all the more better with him by my side. I’m still trying to shift the weight I gained from being all-inclusive, in addition to the late night trips to our favourite ice-cream shop, but damn was it worth it.

I passed my driving theory test – After booking my test around 5 weeks in advance, I got stuck into the book as well as the app in order to absolutely nail this test (I just love studying, so any excuse). Following a not so great start with the hazard perception due to the fact I’m overly paranoid and would stop at the sight of a pedestrian at the end of the road, I eventually got the hang of it. On the day of the test I spent my day in the office on edge, anxiously waiting for 5 o’clock to come around so I could make my way to the test centre and get it over and done with, which I did and guess what? I passed too. Rather than coming out and being honest, I may have been mean and told my mum I’d failed the hazard by one mark, only so I could go home and do the whole “JUST KIDDING MUM I PASSED” act. She cried, so if that’s her crying at me passing my theory, I can only imagine what she’ll be like when I start my lessons and pass my practical.

That was just 5 of my many highlights of this Summer and I can only be hopeful about Summer 2018 and the memories that are to come from that. What’s been your favourite moment of Summer 2017? I’d love to read about it so drop a quick comment below.
